Museo slab is a great serif font that is elegant but friendly. It was designed by Jos Buivenga, and has a brother font called Museo Sans. This font is known for it’s rectangular form punctuation marks and big x-height. It makes a great font for headlines.

It was tricky finding some fonts that look like Museo Slab. However, after looking at all the different options on Google Fonts I was able to find 3 that would make a decent alternative.

I do want to note that no matter what there is no real replacement for the actual font itself. If you are in a position to do so, I recommend you support the creator by purchasing their work.

Sometimes, you will need a free alternative with a similar look and feel. Below are the options that I was able to find.

The best Google Font Alternatives to Museo Slab are:

  • Roboto Slab
  • Zilla Slab

These are going to be the best lookalikes available on Google Fonts. So lets dive into each one.

Roboto Slab

Roboto Slab, in my opinion, is going to be the best alternative to Museo Slab.

If you take a look at the lowercase, it very closely matches the lowercase of Museo Slab.

There is one minor difference in the "x" in lowercase. The "x" in Roboto Slab features a horizontal line on all the end points while in Museo Slab it features more of a half line on all the points.

The uppercase is also very similar. The only major difference is in the uppercase "Q". Museo Slab features more of a line that goes through the loop. In Roboto Slab, it is more of just a tail.

As usual, there are some minor differences, but it would definitely work as a good alternative.

Zilla Slab

Zilla Slab is another similar font for Museo Slab.

It closely matches the lowercase font except for the "y". Zilla Slab features more of a horizontal line at the end while in Museo Slab is more curved.

Uppercase is also closely matched. However, you will find a difference in the "G". Zilla Slab features a nice down stroke on the bottom part, while Museo Slab doesn't even have it at all.

Take a look below.

Conclusion

Either one of these fonts would make a great alternative for Museo Slab. They both closely match the lowercase font and uppercase. As usual, it will never replace the actual font, but it can make a good lookalike if you are need a free solution.
