2 Google Fonts Similar to Verdana
Verdana was a popular sans-serif font in early 2000s. This was because it was used for Microsoft products. It features a large x-height, and wide proportions. The font works great on computer screens, but isn't recommended for high quality print.
For these reasons, it is such a popular font. Verdana was a challenge to find a good similar looking font.

The lowercase letters of Jost match Verdana really well. There are some minor differences such as the "t" in Jost not have a little curve at the end. However the formation of the letters are almos the same.
The main difference is that many of the letters are close to the same height in Verdana. Whereas in Jost, most of the letters vary in height.

Arimo is another good looking font that is similar to Verdana. Many of the letters are the same with some very minor differences in a few of the letters.
If you look closely, you will notice the "j", "a", and "y" are different. While in the uppercase the letters are very similar except for the "M".

Either one of these fonts would make for a good alternative. Nothing of course beats the actual font itself. That is why I recommend that you simply purchase the font from the creator if you are in a position to do so.
